BARARAT FOR BABY: Ice cream makers do the churning for you to create smooth ice cream in minutes, and you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get one.
You can pick up the Progress EK4390P ice cream maker for £29.99, down from £49.99, from Robert Dyas. George at Asda has one for £18.
TOP ADV-ICE: Whatever recipe you use, it’s essential that all ingredients are chilled before use as they will freeze faster and result in a smoother texture, says Paul Huddleston, head chef at Waterside Bar and Bistro in Shipley, West Yorks.
Paul, who has worked with Marco Pierre White and Alain Ducasse, also recommends using whole, tastier and easier-to-churn ingredients. Bold flavors are best because they will fade when frozen. Eat within a week to ensure the taste is at its best.

GO BANANAS: For super easy, no-churn ice cream, toss ripe banana chunks into the freezer. When frozen, blend it in a blender. You can add a little yogurt or whole milk if you want a creamier finish.
Experiment with different flavors, like peanut butter, chocolate, or vanilla extract. Return your mixture to the freezer for an hour before serving.
CRAZY TRIM: For an indulgent topping, cover your favorite chocolate bar with a tea towel and crush it with a rolling pin, then sprinkle the shards over your ice cream.
Or for a simple version of Eton Mess, crumble meringue over vanilla ice cream and top with strawberry sauce and single cream. Or mash ginger nut biscuits on Haagen-Dazs salted caramel, which has gone from £4.50 to £3 at Sainsbury’s.
