20 Best Sugar-Free Dessert Recipes

At Delish, we say “everything in moderation”, so while we probably won’t completely cut sugar from our diets (although we’ve tried the keto and low carb diets and totally support those who follow them), there are certainly times that we want to reduce our sugar intake. When we feel low on energy or have too many cravings, we know it’s time to turn to sugar-free desserts. Whatever your reasoning, if you’re looking for fancy sugar-free sweets, this list is for you!

A number of the desserts on this list skip white sugar instead of sugar substitutes like maple syrup, honey, or coconut sugar. We like them because they don’t raise your blood sugar as much as white sugar, and they often have more complex flavors. In our Almond Cake, for example, the maple syrup complements the olive oil and citrus in a way that regular sugar wouldn’t. Our paleo brownies use coconut sugar and honey to give them their extra gooey texture. Honey also plays a part in our classic fruit salad. We know, we know, fruit is kind of the no-sugar no-brainer, but we promise the honey orange vinaigrette we drizzle on it is worth a try.

Looking to cut out carbs altogether? While we don’t always like carb-free sugar substitutes, our two favorites are Stevia (Truvia is our favorite brand) and Erithyritol (Swerve is our favorite brand). While you can usually swap Swerve cup for cup for sugar, stevia is much sweeter than sugar, so you’ll want to use it in moderation. Our keto cheesecake, for example, only uses one tablespoon! Try Swerve in our Keto Birthday Cake (the coconut flake sprinkles are SO cute) or our Keto Ice Cream. They are perfect for sugar-free parties.

Another surprise ingredient in a number of our favorite sugar-free desserts? Lawyers! They add incredible creaminess and don’t impart a savory taste to the final product at all. Try it in our Avocado Popsicles (dipped in chocolate, yum), Chocolate Mousse, or Chocolate Truffles. You might be tempted to slip fatty green fruits into desserts all the time!
